Whistleblowers Awards logo

The Whistleblower Awards are dedicated to advancing transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct through the following key approaches:

  • Recognising and Protecting Whistleblowers: By acknowledging and celebrating individuals who courageously expose wrongdoing or unethical practices, the Awards aim to encourage others to come forward without fear of retaliation or stigmatisation.

  • Promoting Ethical Conduct: By showcasing the profound positive impact whistleblowers can have, we send a clear message that unethical behaviour will not be tolerated in any organisation or institution.

  • Enhancing Transparency: Shedding light on concealed or corrupt activities contributes to improving corporate governance, fostering accountability, and ensuring public trust in institutions.

  • Preventing Fraud and Corruption: These awards incentivise individuals to report fraud, corruption, and unethical activities, thereby protecting the interests of both stakeholders and the general public.

  • Ensuring Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Operating within established legal frameworks, the Whistleblower Awards highlight the importance of ensuring organisations adhere to laws designed to protect whistleblowers and safeguard their rights.

  • Raising Public Awareness: By raising awareness of whistleblowers' critical role in promoting a just and ethical society, the Awards foster a culture where ethical behaviour is not only expected but celebrated.

  • Advocating for Whistleblower Support: These awards advocate for financial and livelihood protections for whistleblowers by encouraging both the state and private organisations to provide meaningful support, easing the personal hardships often faced by those who speak out.

Vision

The Whistleblowers Awards aspire to be a beacon of courage, integrity, and accountability, championing those who risk their safety and well-being to expose wrongdoing and uphold the principles of transparency and justice. Through these awards, we aim to inspire a culture where truth-telling is celebrated, and whistleblowers are protected, supported, and empowered to effect meaningful change. Our vision is to create a society where ethical courage is rewarded, where whistleblowers play a pivotal role in safeguarding democracy, and where institutions are held accountable for fostering environments of transparency and ethical governance. By honouring these brave individuals, we seek to transform the narrative around whistleblowing, shifting from one of retaliation to recognition, and building a future where justice and fairness prevail.

Message by the Convenor

True leadership is not measured by the power you wield, but by the integrity you uphold and the justice you fight for, even when no one is watching.

In Quotes...

We have had whistleblowing legislation for 23 years since 2000 when the Protected Disclosures Act was passed. Are we, as country, not due for a detailed account by the ministry of justice, law enforcement agencies and other entities of the executive arm of state on what has happened in the terrain of corruption-fighting, whistleblowing, and witness protection since the inception of the legislation to the present and before we adopt more laws in the area? I do not mean generic and predictable, declaration to fight corruption and to prosecute or hold to account perpetrators.
